RMI India is hiring for a consultant to join the team to support our work in transforming India’s transportation and energy sectors. Specifically, we are seeking an individual who can support RMI India’s engagement with state governments to accelerate their energy transition pathway.

Organisation Overview
RMI India is an organisation recognised for thought leadership in clean energy and climate solutions in India. Ongoing work focuses on the transport, buildings, and electricity sectors and involves technical assistance and policy support at the state and national level.
Position Overview
This role requires you to support RMI India’s relationships with multiple government stakeholders to advance energy transition including implementation of their solar policy initiatives. It requires creative problem solving, applying critical thinking, and technical and analytical abilities. As a Consultant, you will be expected to support liaising with government and industry partners, as well as collaborate with your team members to craft visionary yet practical solutions. We expect self-motivation, curiosity, creativity, the ability to drive oneself and others toward meaningful results, and a passion for the clean energy transition.
As an RMI India Consultant, you will be an independent contributor and work closely with colleagues on projects, under the direction of more senior staff.
Your Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate on project deliverables and activities between RMI India team members and various external stakeholders.
- Provide core research and quantitative analysis support to projects.
- Design and create innovative problem-solving approaches and quantitative models to effectively address key questions and challenges posed by our research goals and clients.
- Synthesise recommendations into clear and compelling presentations and written reports.
- Present quantitative information in a clear and visual format.
- Provide administrative and logistics support necessary for implementation of solar policy with state governments.
- Engage with external experts via phone interviews, conferences, and on occasion, respond to outreach requests.
- Managing relationships with government and non-government stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in an applicable field such as engineering, physical and social sciences, economics, planning and architecture, business, computer science, and mathematics is preferred.
- Familiarity and/or interest in renewable energy policy, distributed solar, and/or the wider electricity industry.
- 2–4 years of cumulative work experience in a relevant field.
- Prior experience of working with diverse groups, liaising with government entities, supporting implementation of government programmes, facilitating challenging conversations, and designing effective meetings.
- Comfort working in both collaborative team settings as well as independently managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English and Hindi) for effective collaboration with team members, as well as external partners and stakeholders.
- Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills, including the ability to break down complex issues in a straightforward, logical manner.
- Demonstrated initiative and accomplishment in previous work.
- A willingness to plunge into new areas of work and to learn new subject matter with intellectual curiosity, a flexible mindset, and a passion for impact and environmental sustainability.
Location
The position will be based in Lucknow, UP.
We can consider Delhi-based candidates who can travel frequently and spend a considerable time of the week in Lucknow.
